This year we are excited to announce that the format has changed from seminars past; you will be able to register for our seminar as either an all-day or afternoon-only event.

The all-day event (8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) will include a morning bus-tour of Metairie and Cypress Grove cemeteries, followed by lunch at Greenwood Cemetery and two fantastic lectures in the afternoon, at a cost of $50 per person. Bus reservations are limited to the first 25 individuals to register prior to May 22, 2015 – early registration is strongly encouraged.

For individuals interested in attending the afternoon session only (11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), we are pleased to offer admission at a reduced cost of $15. Boxed lunches will be available for an additional $10, with lunch beginning at 11:45am, and the first speaker beginning at 12:45pm.

As always, we are thrilled to have two amazing speakers joining us for the seminar:

Sal Serio, curator of the American Italian Research Library at the East Bank Regional Library in Metairie, will be presenting first on family genealogical research: “Cemeteries and Obituaries is a big asset in family research”.

Deborah Burst, author of the recently published “Louisiana’s Sacred Places: Churches, Cemeteries and Voodoo,” will share her presentation: Discovering Feliciana Cemeteries: From Plantation Monarchs to Civil War Heroes.

Maunsel White Tomb in Cypress Grove

In Cypress Grove Cemetery, along Live Oak Alley, Cypress Grove’s central cross alley, is the fenced-in Greek revival tomb of Maunsel White. White was a captain in the War of 1812 and was elected to the Louisiana Senate, but he is perhaps best remembered for inventing that Louisiana staple, pepper sauce. The gabled pediment possesses some particularly beautiful details with its fanned corners and flowery, palmette acroterion ornamentation.
